1903A1 With Unertl Sniper Found Need Verification

Attended a small gunshow in NC a couple weeks ago to discover a 1903A1 NM rifle with Unertl 8x USMC sniper marked unertl . I recorded the details of the rifle .The owner allowed me to disassemble the rifle to make additional notes .I have his phone # should additional information about the rifle be required .Reported sold at Quintico in 1970 Can anyone help verify is originallity .owensv1@bellsouth.net Thanks In advance

Thanks Chuck for the suggestion Several members have replied . Some suggested the info be kept off line untill it is determined if it is real or bogus .Not to make it easier for basement armourers .As a respected member I would share the details / concerns with you confidentially.. I am not the owner or broker of the rifle . A friend is interested and hopes not to make expensive mistake .

There is really nothing to be lost by posting a pictures and a description of the rifle in question. If anything needs to be kept confidential its the reponses to what is disclosed.

The rifle is detailed in Senich's marine sniper book and several other sources.

As to the humpers that ship has sailed. They have already had a field day with this model. Keeping the discussion in the dark doesn't hurt them. If any thing it helps them fob their crap off on the unsuspecting.

It is nearly impossible to 'verify' a USMC M1903A1 Sniper without actually looking at it. The rifles are not hard to fake but genuine pieces are very rare. I own one and have seen two others in 25 years of collecting. In 15 years of working with Rock Island Auction Co., I have seen thousands of rifles and hundreds of 1903s; although they have sold several genuine Walker Colts, a number of legitimate Singer M1911 and other rare martial arms they have NEVER sold a real M1903A1 Sniper. Larry Reynolds, AKA "Big Larry" probably knows as much about Marine Snipers as anyone; I am sure John Beard could help out as well. Some of the key identification featues of M1903A1 Marine Snipers are very easy to fake - I would rather not discuss them.

one thing that cant be faked.
the weapons despo. from Redstone... have the serial number checked, and find out.. takes time and a little money..but worth the effort.
if your up for a trip, go to Redstone, and do the search yourself.
freedom of information act, allows this to happen.
