Sa Bm-59
Last weekend I picked up an unfired, mint Springfield Armory BM-59. Gentleman I purchased it from said he bought it from SA in 1983 and it has sat ever since (although the box didnt survive the devorice...) . It has a very low serial number (227) and i was wondering if anyone has any idea on production numbers of these models... Any ideas on how many were made???

Springfield Armory? BM59s were Italian
upgrades and were sold around the early 80s

Bear, Thanks but as stated the BM-59 I bought was purchased in 1983. I was wondering how many were manufactured by Springfield Armory (actually, I guess assembled would be a better term as they were all manufactured by Beretta in Italy
and then shipped to SA to be assembled in the US...)

Phrog,
Unrelated to your question, but...how do you like it? I've read they are very nice, but it is hard to find the mags (if I'm talking about the correct rifle). It's a .308, right?

Howard,
Thanks alot for the response. I contacted SpringField Armory and they told me the rifle was manufatured in 1981 (the serial number is 227 so it is very early...) but couldn't tell me total production numbers for whatever reason... I paid $1660 and it came with 7 factory Mags (which I hear are $75-$100 each...). It is a REALLY neat gun and plan on holding on to it for a ong time...Thanks again...

When they can be found $75 is the low side for the BM mags. I seen one in the wrapper for $135.

Springfield Inc BM-59
Here are pictures of mine. I think SA Inc can tell you the year of production and how many they made. I also have a Breda M1
with a SA Inc barrel that they assembled from surplus Australian
parts.
