SA/SPG buttstock

I am primarily a collector of M1 carbines, although I also have several
(14) Garands that I have tried to put back together with all the correct dash-number parts. Along the way, I ended up with a nice-condition buttstock pretty clearly marked SA/SPG (no crossed cannons), although it helps to get it in the right light. There is the circled "P" with serifs high on the grip. Both holes under buttplate are same diameter. I know it's too early for any of my Garands, but I have a friend who has a gas trap gun (receiver only; rest is replica) and has offered me $300 for the stock, yet I see that someone on eBay is currently asking nearly ten times that for theirs, even without the cartouche. (wow!!)
I am not really knowledgeable of nuances on these early Garands -- can anyone perhaps tell me a little about what I have here, and what would be a fair price for it? What else can I tell you about it?

You need to post clear photos of the butt end, the cartouche and proof "P." Otherwise it's all speculation.

If it's real and in decent shape, 10 times is the bid. They have sold higher.

You may have a early Winchester and it can be worth more. We need to see the stock in pictures to let you know for sure. Early WRA did not have the V-cut trigger guard lock up area nor the arched underside like SPG did and then dropped only to have Winchester pick it up. The op Rod channel cut will tell along with a few other things. I have handle many of these early ones can help by email if not pics here. Rick B

Dang.....I just saw a nice, original SPG stock at a recent show...It was on a mixmaster and had a faint catouche, but was all there....knew there was something about this cartouche, but I never fooled with early garands...and almost bought the rifle for the stock.....should have.....dang again...

Here is a photo of the post WW2 SA SPG rebuild stamp - note the "fat" letters of this stamp. The pre war SA SPG had the tall thin letters. Other stocks can be found with this rebuild stamp too

Problem today is 90% of the early stocks you find are fake stamped and a small % are plain out late stocks made to look early. When they see $3,000 and up for these they can't help but be scum bags and fake them. Be carefull as I know of 3 SPG fake stamps. Rick B

When I was doing gun shows, I always took a mixmaster along in the trunk so I would have one of every part to trade. I often found something good on a junk import, and for $10 plus a new replacement the dealer would usually let me swap
