If AP is Armor Piercing, isn't it illegal in many States.

Pistol (hence SMG) AP is a problem in many states. Rifle AP is OK in most states.

Not really. It is my understanding that if the round can be used in a handgun, then it is illegal according to federal law. That basically makes just about every rifle round illegal since contender chambers its handguns in about every caliber.
I believe that M2 AP is specifically exempt from the ban and can be owned per the statutes.
If AP was legal just about everywhere, then why can't I buy AP ammo for 5.56, 308, ect. Oh and I know the green tip M855 ammo is not AP so don't try that one.
It is my understanding that only mil and LE are allowed to have true AP. Personally, I think that is a stupid law and it's nothing but a feel good gun law. 30-06 ball pierces "armor" and if I had to choose a projectile to fight with, it woyuld be some sort of maybe barnes load that is bonded or solid copper so it is "barrier blind" and expands, preforming better on soft targets.
That's a conversation for another day.

10,000 cans. Nothing left of it but fumes and a dirty spot where it was all stacked up.
colt100 - This company sells lots of dismantled surplus military ammo components. They don't have any AP bullets listed at the moment, but they DO have some .50bmg Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer bullets, and lots of other tracers. I think you're incorrect about the legality of rifle AP, but I bet the owner of this place is pretty much up on the laws. Bullets

I believe it was Olympic Arms AR-15 pistol chambered for 7.62X39 that started the whole AP ammo ban. At that time Chinese mild steel core ammo was plentiful but Clinton banded further import of such. So why does 5.56 with the steel penetrator round legal? Doesn' make sense.

LONG story about Clinton and weapons. Seems Chinese didn't contribute to his re-election campaign. LONG story.
