K98k Restoration Guy - Anybody Know A Good One?

I need to find someone to do some restoration work on a K98k. Minor metal work only. Wood is okay. Looking for a gunsmith who knows what he's doing when it comes to a K98k.

Not sure if he does this kind of work but he seems to know his stuff and take pride in what he does.

I got a refurbished byf41 from him three years ago....he found me a vet bring back, refurbished it to "as issued" condition".

Great comms throughout the project, listened to what I wanted and understood my concerns/priorities.

Am very happy with the results.

Would happily buy from him again. Here's pics...hope they help

It is always a difficult choice to refurbish or keep original. I wnated a rifle that I could shoot, not hang ona wall and that was "conserved" sympathetically. I think Ed was able to deliver that. The only new parts are a replacement walnut stock (the previous owner had added a very unpleasant "tiger stripe" repro stock), repro scope covers and SSR mount and a new sling made by a local saddle maker using hardware salvaged from an irreparably damaged orginal (using a sling from my father's collection as reference)

Andy, mostly i´ll refurb my rifles and others make it look like original and let them their history. That poor K98 sniper will never look like original for the reason that the former owner has sanded the metall parts down and removed an SS-marking. So the decision goes that way: remove the sanding traces than bead blasting the metalwork. Give them the original bluing and looking how to save the Stock. The collectors value is gone, but it is a very good shooter and the price was ok too.

That's the approach I took with the 98k - on the other hand my Enfield SMLE is an all matching LSA 1915, complete with original woodwork, volley sights and 215Gr RN rear sight ramp. I wouldn't mess with it for anything but at the same time it is (IMHO) a real responsibility and that is not always comfortable when bagging it up and taking it to the range.

Either way - for me keeping these rifles shooting is what it is all about.
