Question on Underwood Type III slide marking
Mis-placed some notes.
I have the same Underwood slide as the one pictured here for sale on the WANT TO SELL board.
Th Slides - Military Surplus Collectors Forums
It's marked .O..U. in a circle
Were these the ones made by Oneida Cutlery for Underwood?
TIA,

WarBaby says O.U. slide = Oneide Ltd slide made in Oneida NY for Underwood.

Charlie, Make sure it has an M on the bottom of the slide. It kind of looks like it was in use very later 1943 into 1944.

Why does he need to make sure it has an M on it?

I have that same slide in a Underwood 4,054,680.
Just seemed I remember another member on the old forum asking about his which was also marked .O..U. in a circle. I believe it was Brian Q that gave me the makers name, I've just mis-placed the notes. Thought it was Utica or Oneida ... but not positive now.
No big thing, was just curious after seeing the same one listed for sale.
Thx,
Charlie

I have a question I hope somebody with experience can help with. The lugs which ride in the grooves of the barrel of this slide appear "worn". They are not "square". Is this wear or variation in the manufacturing specs? And how much "wear" is tolerable for function?
TIA

Those lugs show normal wear. Still has plenty of life left to it, especially if one keeps the receiver lug slots lightly greased.
Have seen worn out ones with just nubs left same with the pad near the slide handle. You'll hear guys complain about the slide jumping out of track when too worn down.
So.... Not a manufacturing feature.... just plain honest wear.
I'd buy if I needed it.
Cheers,

OK, that's good to know. All the drawing's I've seen show those lugs square and mine from the CMP
show "some" wear and so are no longer "square" but not that much. Just curious. Thanks.
