New spring is wolfe length exactly 25 turns 2 7/8 "
Old spring is exactly 23 turns 2 3/8"
Manual says old spring should be replaced with new GI spring 26.5 turns 2.616"
The new wolfe spring is tough to put in ....I haven't done it yet....Old spring goes in No problem...anyone know "Tricks"...charlie....Yea I have a brass punch through the trigger spring pin hole to help...

If there is no urgent need to replace it why do it?
I have found Wolf springs to be just close sized commercial springs thrown into a bag. Not identified and few fitting very well. There is no need to increase spring pressure and if your carbine fires OK, leave the original in place. GI springs are very high quality items. When installing the hammer spring, bring it in from the RIGHT side of the hammer, and it isn't difficult at all. I suspect that far from being custom made "stronger springs" they are just what is on hand and the ones that are too long are sold as stronger. And yes, I bought the whole $14 package from Midway. Used exactly one, the slide spring.

This is from another thread and started all of this....I will check with wolfe and see about the slipshod...I may send back the wolfe and Get the longer GI spring specified in the manual and maybe the problem will go away with the correct GI spring....I order Wolfe automatically as I have never had any problems with them and have corrected many magazine problems using them.......(Later........ Just looked at wolf instructions which stated fitting must be done if needed....The ad on their site did not say that.....They even have a super dooper heavy spring.....I just got the regular, impossible to put in because it is too strong , spring ).........Thanks Charlie

Strong Hammer Springs
Sometimes I can get the spring back in using the slide spring rod, but have had a couple slip off and go flying. In my cluttered work shed, they are sometimes gone forever. If it seems like a strong spring I put the TH in a vice (leather to protect it) and use a very small vice grip, maybe 4-5 in long, on end of the spring rod to slide it into place. Haven't lost one yet with that method and the vice grip doesn't mar the spring rod. I'm one of the elders and my hand strength is not as strong as it used to be, so this works for me.

Putting the whole thing into a plastic bag helps
things may go flying, but you will find them. A steady pull back and into the slot from the RIGHT.

I made me a tool years ago just for that job. I used a small screwdriver. Then narrowed part of the blade down to the size of the hole in the rod. But leave a stop on it so it won't go to far in to the hole. You have a lot more control then. I've used it to change lots of hammers and it still works great. The plunger rod almost never shoots across the room with it.
