Need help valuing an early Winchester..
Hello,
I've lurked here for a while and found this to be a great forum - this is my first post. I have an early spring tube Winchester that I'm trying to place a value on as I unfortunately need to sell it. It has a WRA stamped barrel with a date of 12-42, and the serial number is 1013XXX. The other details are as follows:
W stamp at heel of receiver
W stamp on hammer
W stamp on magazine release
S marked flip sight
12 stamped on underside of receiver
X and O stamped on slide
early style textured safety
"I" cut stock with no markings
Barrel is in very good shape. I have not gauged the throat or muzzle yet.
There are no other markings on any other parts that I can find.
Here are some pictures for reference:Attachment 14671Attachment 14684Attachment 14683Attachment 14682Attachment 14681Attachment 14680Attachment 14679Attachment 14678Attachment 14677Attachment 14676Attachment 14675Attachment 14674Attachment 14673Attachment 14672Attachment 14685
Thanks-
Jim

well let me be the first to say if I had that I would just box it up and throw it in the river, but since I am a nice guy I will give you 100.00 for it just so you do not have to look at it any more.

Put it on Gunbroker auction and see what action you get. Set the reserve as high as you want. If it don't sell, then you have an idea of value and can run it again.

Did Winchester replace all of their type 1 bolts before issue?
Also, did Winchester not mark their small parts in these few early guns? I ask, because my Winchester has everything marked W except the plungers. Wouldn't we expect to see a PW proof on both the barrel and receiver heel? Beautiful carbine.

Shouldn’t the rear sight be marked with a square S?

The barrel does have a faint PW mark, closer to the handguard.

Being so early,
Would anyone know if this stock could have been issued without the boxed WRA over GHD?
Also wonder about the marking on the flip like Hooks asked?
How is that flip sight staked?
Could we see a picture?
How about some help from the EARLY WRA guys?
TIA,

Going by Reisch, and Ruth, they were all marked with WRA/GHD early boxed, later open...but perhaps the first few thousand didnt get cartouched?
Its like my early UEF without the ordnance wheel, the info was developed early UEF didnt have them.
This looks like the 2nd mentioned, no sanding/no cartouches..
Mine is in the first 100K range..I'd not keep it without the magic proofs..thats me..
