Do a search on No4 bedding on this forum, there's heaps of info in heaps of other threads.

This is soooo bad.... I should be working but I am playing with Rifles....
OK so it is the draws that provide the up pressure on the barrel...
I made up some impromptu shims out of some cardboard and masking tape to place on the draws...once I did that and i pushed the stock on the barrel drew up and away from the stock and closed the rear gap at the receiver socket.......unless I am seeing things this seems to be the case...
So if this is accurate seems I am taking on at some point reforming the draws etc..
NOW does ANYONE have an old no4 forend that I can purchase so I can have a dry run first before I work on this stock?
Thanks ! NickJC North western hills

Nick, in the nicest possible way, you really and truly need to read up on the threads dealing with fitting a fore-end and T-Bones thread on making up a No4T where he's doing exactly what you want to do.
You'll also find that there is no mention of cardboard shims, masking tape or shims of any sort................. Please read up first or all your practice will be in vain

Hi Mr. Laidler
, may I call you Peter?
Agreed and since the original post I did read T-Bones thread and it makes perfect sense...AND I also read your article about handling the draws..........
After reading while playing around with some shims to just see what results would be with non worn draws or shrunken wood.....I can see the affect of proper fitment
of the receiver to the draws are and the effects of same.....everything just snugs right up....barrel 'floats' a tad by the muzzle etc.
Also I received a note about the bushing at the trigger guard screw....and the bushing might be too long....
When I tighten the screw down without the bushing on the forend locks tighter to the draws....
All very interesting in the mechanics of it all....
Please do not mistake my talk of shims tape and cardboard as anything other than trying to duplicate an effect with proper wood fitment....i was semi successful, but it is in no way a proper and permanent fix.
