No.5 Mk.1 Lee -Enfield Sn. BB 9724- Is there something else I should know about this.

    No.5.Mk.1 Lee-Enfield
    JUNGLE CARBINE

BSA Shirley – Sn. BB 9724.

Someone suggested I should find out more about this gun?
I am not a knowledgeable Enfield collector.

Is there anything else I should know?

Other than, it's a fantastic condition, BSA made, No5 Mk 1, made in 1945? I'd very much like to have that rifle in my stable of Lee Enfields. Is the bore as good as the outside?

It was sold into the UKicon civilian market - hence the Uk proof marks (BNP, 18.5 tons, 2,222" etc)
Then - somehow it ended up in Canadaicon
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

what you need ot knwo is that alot of people would love to have a great example like that - me included.
What you then need to know is that you shouldn't monkey around with it at all.
Further still, but I suspect you'll find out anyway, you need to know that once you get into Enfields, they are somewhat addictive (more so than any other milsurp I've found) and you'll end up with a bunch of them. May aswell face that fact now and be done with it - otherwise there's a couple of years of denial to go through, plus some guilt at gunshows and in that period you could miss out on some other really nice pieces.

    Thanks for the feedback.

tbonesmithicon-if there have been 200 rounds put through the barrel of this gun ..that would have been a lot…..I suspect the bore is pretty decent as it was always promptly cleaned after shooting.

I believe when my late father bought this rifle from the importer in Montreal back in the late 60s early 70s it had not been fired.

Alan de Enfield-thanks for your comment on the UKicon proof marks….I did not know this.

Newcastle….collecting Enfield’s may be addictive…and I am sure that you are right….I just can’t handle any more gun collecting addictions.
I own a U.S. Civil War period Enfield P-53… and together with this rifle that is as far as I will go into the Enfield collecting world.

    PATTERN 1853 ENFIELD RIFLED MUSKET.
This gun does not belong here…but it is the only other Enfield I own.
An Enfield rifled musket from a different war…the U.S. Civil War.

    Perhaps a Confederate gun????

It really is amazing to think that 20 to 30 years after than musket was produced, we had been through the Martini action and arrived at the Lee Action. 20 years ago we had the M16icon, SA80, MP5 etc, look what we have now, M16, SA80, MP5 etc. We must be slowing down with weapon development. Modern times?
