Canadian Lyman Alaskan scope and mount research help ....

I'm doing a research project for an MKL article and need some help.

I've got a correctly marked Canadian Lyman Alaskan scope #4411s c/w mounts, which I understand is one of 350 Canadian contract scopes used on the No. 4 Mk I TP sniper rifle. The scope and mount setup has apparently been sitting in the vault of an old collector for a few decades, but I'm trying to find out more about the mount itself. The mount doesn't have the Long Branch rifle serial number on it, but does have several other small stamps and numbers.

I understand that about 4-5 years ago, someone was selling a bunch of reproduction mounts for these scopes, so I'd like to get some pics of both legitimate and reproduction versions of them. If anyone is willing to help out and share pics and any other information about either, it would be appreciated.

I also have an original No. 4 Mk I TP sniper rifle with scope and mount. In addition, I have an extra orginal mount. Came from an old collector in the Ottawa area that passed away several years ago.

The amount of pics and information we've received via private emails and published here so far, has been terrific. It's all building towards quite an interesting article, with some of the content members have sent us that could only be characterized as "ground breaking" on this subject, with one member providing some potential background that has not been published before. That member is currently working towards some additional research which we hope to incorporate into the finished article.

So, we'd appreciate everyone who may have an Enfield rifle with a Canadian Lyman Alaskan mounted on it, that's perhaps NOT a Long Branch in the official range published, to have a close look at it and see if there's any markings that resemble the kind of stamps shown below. Of course, the numbers may be different, but the nature and locations of the markings may have something in common, which is what we're focusing on.

Have a look and see if you have any Enfield Rifles that meet the criteria we mentioned above, which also exhibit markings similar to the pics below. You may also notice that the rifle may exhibit a very high quality of gunsmith workmanship with the installation of the scope and mount on the rifle, as opposed to appearing to be a typical "bubba" job out of hacker's basement.

We're wrapping this research up and just preparing a new Knowledge Library entry with extensive photo montage for an authentic all correct 1944 Long Branch No. 4 Mk I TP sniper rifle, complete with its matching Lyman-Alaskan scope, matching scope tin and original matching transit chest.

Should be on-line in the coming weeks ...
