stainless steel garand
The other day a friend of mine were talking about your forum. he says he bought a stainless steel .30 cal. garand about ten years ago. He said he got 4 magazines with it. my question is did springfield make a stainless steel m1 garand in .30 cal. I always thought that the m1 garand was like a 30-6 or a .308 and was loaded from the top with a clip. He said he would bring it over so we can look for some markings. He also said it is marked garand on top.

I think you will find your friend is mistaken. Take photos and post.

Several years ago, Sarco sold bare receivers in stainless, made by Caspian I believe as were many others they sold. I know nothing about them and have only seen one or two in the last ten years, both assembled into rifles. I shied away from them since the reports of poor manufacture and alignment of bolts and op rods made me nervous about their long-term viability and worth. Perhaps your friend bought one of the rifles assembled on Sarco's receivers. That's my only guess.

My guess would be he bought a Ruger mini 14 instead of a Garand
given that the M-1 doesn't use a magazine.

That would also be my guess. The Ruger Mini-14 is offered in stainless and is magazine fed. It has been around since about 1974.

stainless steel garand.
Ithank everyone for their input. my friend brought over the rifle in question and it turns out to be an eiverson stainless steel .30 cal carbine. I guess he believed the person who sold it to him that it was a garand. he also wondered what it would be worth to see if he had been taken. he says he paid 400.00 dollars for it ? thanks again for all your help.

With only your three photos to peruse, I would venture to say that your rifle was bead blasted and chrome plated. Especially since the serial number is from October, 1944.
