MK I barrel
The barrel on my MK I Springfield has been counter bored smooth at the muzzle .355 diameter by 1.375 deep. Is this a normal feature of the MK I rifle, and if so, what is its' function?
Thanks
Ray

U.S. Ordnance did not counter bore the muzzle, other countries have done this to rifles like the M1
too. It was done in an attempt to salvage any accuracy that might be left in the barrel
