Asking and researching for a friend.
I've read this post a number of times, gathering what info I could from it...
Front sight…..sideways N or Z
Then looked my closest to his S'G' over.
My S'G' 1,823 has Type I frt sight marked N and no number (2-7) on outer leaf.
It looks to be the original frt sight and Underwood 8-43 barrel, with unmarked 2 weld Type I barrel band....
My friends question.....
Might a sideways N ( AKA Z ) front sight be correct for his S'G' 1,829,xxx?
There are no numbers stamped on the outer leafs.
My best advice to him,
I've found nothing in the records I have, stating that IP or S'G' used the Z marked sight.
They used only Type I milled frt sights. Early unmarked, (very few), IPN,PN or N all marked with a number (2-7) on the outer ear are correct for the split serial number block for IP/S'G'.
Note that some came with just the N stamp and no number (2-7) stamped on the outer leaf, These no number leafs were used in the mid 1943 range.
Do I have him heading down the right road?
Can anyone add to this?
Anyone like Bobg the SAGINAW MAN out in Washington State ??
Appreciate any help,
