FN49 conversion...
I have a Eygptian FN49 in excellent condition. It is basically brand new and not been fired much, or at all for that matter. It's mainly made up and assemblied from parts, though brand new.
My question is this. How hard would it be to convert it to 30-06 or 7.62. Would I be correct in thinking, that an exchange of the barrel and gas cylinder assemlby, be all that is required? Am looking at converting it for the availablity of common ammuntion. Which the 8x57 isn't in the US.

I think there are too many problems in converting the 8x57 to 30-06 concerning the magazine and barrel. Beretta did convert some of the Argentine
FN49's to 7.62mm and these are in the US, they use a special magazine. You could always reload 8x57 too

I wish I had access to the cheap 8mm that the US does. Romanian 8mm at AIM Surplus, $99.95 for 340 rounds.

Some areas in Europe, the 8x57mm FN49 rifles were rechambered to 8x59mm because of certain laws
