mosin nagant trouble shooting
I have a hex russian mosin nagant in great shape. 1 problem though
with a full magazine trying to cycle the bolt forward the 1st round nose dives a bit and locks up ?
It generally happens only on the first round ?
The gun was dissaembled and cleaned very good ?

My 91/30 MN does the same thing.... I think its the way the cartridges are stacked into the mag well... the rims on the cases hit the bottom of the rails? and when the bolt goes home the cartridge "nose dives" into the feed ramp...

Disassemble your rifle & make sure the screw holding the Interrupter/ejector is tight.

Sounds like the rim on the first round is getting snagged on the rim of the second round.

This can't happen on Mosin Nagant rifles - the interrupter keeps the second round in the magazine away from the one on the top.

You can have rim-lock with any of the rounds. The top round rim must be in front of the lower round to feed. Also, after I fully disassembled one of my MN's to wash out the cosmoline
, when I reassembled the rifle, I found there was a bit of slide room with the Interrupter/ejector that might have been the cause for a similar issue. I just unscrewed the screw a little, used the screwdriver to drift the I/E further to the rear just a touch and it worked fine afterwards. I don't know if it was the issue to cause the lock (no overlapping rim-lock found), but the problem went away. Good luck.
