Inland S/N 2733
I am new to this site and this is my first post. I bought a carbine through CMP
around 1962. It has S/N 2733. On the sight end of the barrel is marked "INLAND MFG., GENERAL MOTORS, 7-42. It has an adjustable sight and a bayonet lug. It has been setting in my closet all these years. I have taken it to the range a few times but I don't recall ever shooting it. Condition looks excellent to me but I don't know what to look for. I am at the time in my life when I need to evaluate some of the stuff in my closet. How collectible is this piece? Your comments will be appreciated.

Do you have the original shipping box and/or paperwork from the DCM? If so, that can add a few hundred bucks to the value. Any USGI carbine with no import marks and no civilian modifications is collectable. Yours being rebuilt(indicated by bayonet lug and adj sight), is at the lower end of the spectrum though. The very early serial number and 7/42 barrel will probably make it worth a little more to someone as well. The DCM paperwork and box is a BIG plus if you have it. Also, any original stock cartouches will increase the value somewhat.

Thanks for your help. I don't have the box. I may have the paperwork. There is a faint cartouche on the right side of the stock. After reading many of the other posts I am now interested in identifying the components. I have ordered a book and sent my application in to the CC. Thanks again.

If your carbine was original, you would be looking over 2K. As a DCM fresh from rebuild with paper work, not shot it would be 1K. Now for the early serial number and early barrel, I would guess $1,200.00. I would think some oil would be in order.
