garand-itis?????
Hello all-
i call the carbine forum next door my home and i'm making a visit here for a little question i have for you garand guys. many may say we have a "little bit" of a problem with our carbine collecting "sickness and addiction". is there also the same "phenomenon" over here with the garand boys (massive counterfeiting of parts, multiple subcontractors, marking identification madness, etc)
just curious....

As I said over there, there is evidence to that effect. Let me explain, I went to a surplus store owned by a friend for my weekly visit. He had two cartridge belts hanging up and I asked about them. He gave them to me saying, "No one will buy them anyway." That caused me to buy another M1
and then a second one plus bayonets...

That buttstock tool is exactly how it happens and you know it! There was one for sale (M1A1
) at Collectorsource in Acton Ontario for some time. But I wouldn't even hope it was original. $1800 I think it was. I do recall buying a rifle to see how the bayonet looked when it was working.

Over in the guitar world we call it "Guitar Acquisition Syndrome" or G.A.S. and that acronym works here as well.

I had a real case of Garand
-ittis and got aflicted 18 times. The cure if you call it that ..is to start by collecting a carbine. That seems to have broken the spell. The side affects. I've collected 4 bolt action milsurps a late 18 to early 1900s shot gun and 2 semi auto 22 carbines from the 60-70s.(Winchester 190 and Ted Williams 3T carbines) It seems the cure could be worse then the disease.
To add.....I seem to be collecting safes as well. But it is still the best stock market to be invested in, and the funnest too.

Cure theres a Cure? Only 18 ? Hmmm Tried that. It hasnt worked yet. Even tried to curb it down with the Mossberg 44's and Rem 40X's.

After looking at these threads again I recall passing on a carbine while at the CMP
and later a friend gave me a m4 bayonet(leather handle) and I had to order a carbine to complete the set. True story. Bayonet fit great. What do they call that...putting the cart before the horse?
