No.4 front sight guard question
The machined sight guard on my Long Branch has a .025 gap between it and the sight block with the guard screw threads bottomed out. the trigger guard will rotate that .025 even when tight. It doesn't hurt the rifle functionally and If I didn't know about it I probably wouldn't notice it but It annoys me just a bit.
I am using a screw I got from Springfield Sporters that was ordered as a sight guard screw. Is there a difference between the sight guard screw and the rear trigger guard screw? Could I be using a trigger guard screw or are they the same?
Thank you for your time

Trigger guard screw is longer. That might be your drama.

Can't really shorten it as the threads were carefully made to prevent inadvertant interchange.

Thank you jmoore. I kind of thought that might be the case but wanted to be sure. I will look for the correct screw.

If I remember correctly, later the screws were made interchangeable with the thread rolled further down. Maybe someone can correct me........ But same thread anyway. If you're struggling to find such a screw in England
, then the old pre metric light switch screws were 4BA machine head and always a good substitute.
How's that for in-depth rubbish that seems to find a place in the brain cells.......

Haven't yet run across a long threaded trigger guard screw, BUT I've tried to make the threads longer on a couple by trying to tighten the front sight guard snug...
Yet another parts variation for which to look. Thanks for the info!

Also, the sight guard screw for the waisted sight guard is about 3mm shorter. I have a small supply if anyone is in a panic for one.

trigger guard?

Do you mean the milled foresight protector or the three-piece fabricated one, which seems to demand a longer screw?

Yes I was referring to a milled front sight protector and sight guard not trigger guard. Some times I even confuse my self

Sometimes they are slightly loose. Not good. I would just change it for another one.

The rear trigger guard screw and the front sight guard screw look the same, BUT the threads for the front sight guard screw are longer. I suspect that you have a rear trigger guard screw with not enough thread to secure the guard.
