1957 We went to see my uncle. He was an E-9 at Fort Benning at the time. He had a few for his two sons 8 and 9 years old. Got to shoot one. Wasn't hooked then. But remembered it was cool. The older brother had a select fire.

In Lt. Hanley's hands. I'm sure there were earlier ones , but that's the one I remember.

It was my Postal Inspector cousin's DCM carbine in the early 60's. We went to a rock quarry outside Hazard KY where he was stationed. I shot it, it a can at 60-70 yards, and fell in love. (He let me shoot a full 30 round magazine, and I was SOOOOOOO IMPRESSED!) The it was the one in Lt. Hanley's hands on Combat. I remember bragging to my buddies when we watched Combat that "Hey, I shot one of those...."

In a cousin's gun case back in the 1970's. Ex-WWII Seabee who bulldozed airstrips in the Pacific. Nasty brown all over, IBM. Bore had scattered pits from one end to the other- not ammo induced, but weather.
Cousin's gone, but that old carbine's still around and it brings back all sorts of memories!

When I was a kid, my uncle used to hunt deer with an M2 Carbine. We were hunting once and I heard him empty his mag followed by a curse word.

About 1954 when I was a Boy Scout
they took us out to Two Rock Army Station and let us shoot carbines. First real weapon I fired. Ammo was so cheap in those days that they let us shoot a lot.
