Is it considered "tacky"?

Is it considered tacky to ask about enfield part values on this forum?
I own a never mounted 1946 Lithgow No I Mk III frame with no serial number and do not know where to go to ask about valuation.
I also have a bolt with it and what I think are inventory numbers on bottom of handle, rear of handle serial number clear.
It has been several years since I have had the opportunity to visit here. Can someone help please? Reply here if all okay, if not; Off forum: striker20@embarqmail.com

Also, if anyone feels they've been wronged as the consequence of doing a deal with another member, either here or on another Internet forum, then they may open a public line of communication with them using our Member Disputes Forum (click here), in order to attempt to resolve the matter. It's specifically designed for dispute resolution between members on deals gone bad. The main Appraisals, Fakery, Dispute Resolution & Mediation Forum should not be used for that purpose.

On the other hand..................... Personally speaking, I find it a bit tacky when some ask about the value of this, that and the other. There are only two prices in the world of commodity economics. The price YOU think its worth. So advertise and sell it at that price. Or the price that ANOTHER person thinks it's worth. That's basic economics. Any other system is the economics of the mad house. In the latter case, put it up for auction and the price it gets is the price it's worth to THAT person on THAT day.

That's my view.

I think it's only human nature to want information (about anything) and in an occupation that involves buying and selling , we are always interested in values, be they houses, cars, hobbies, or even SMLE mudflaps !!! Who would've thought £560 :-0 (who even knew they existed ?), but very interesting to a lot of mil-surp addicts. We all know 'values' can leap threefold from the auction to the retail shop, but so long as we can see both ends of the price spectrum and not just the high headlines, then there should be no distortion. Awareness may help prevent the elderly being ripped off, or may even make 'er indoors' think twice about chucking dearly departed Grandads dusty collection into the skip. . . . IMO.

Exactly Boulet............ so put it up for auction to get the other persons price or sell it privately to get your price. That's how the commodity market works, be it copper, tin, lead, coffee or bananas

Come now Peter, don't tell me you would put your lovingly restored Sabrina MGA into auction without a reserve ! and to do that you (or the auctioneers) must have some idea of its value, which can only be estimated at by studying the market.
If you are trading in pork belly, you are dealing in millions and you will be following every single sale price to a fraction of a cent . Chucking stuff into auction blind is an act of desperation.

Anyways ... wot I'm getting at (yesterday) is purely the interest and curiosity of market trends, not only from one sale to the next but also between different countries. Even if I'm not buying or selling, it's much more interesting (to me) than the price of pork belly and that's why I think most of us are on this forum, we are interested .

Ok, so Enfcol wants a value on something that sounds like it fell off the back of a camel, then there's no harm in giving an opinion, but I think that's all he can expect. Some people need valuations for insurance purposes, but that has to be paid for and is still just a guestimation.
