B code Underwood

I purchased a B code Underwood on AA and my winning bid was $1375. I had purchased a Inland from the same estate sale so was pretty confident in the rifle. I can find only 2 questions based on Warbaby. First the bolt is marked .U. under the left lug which is an earlier SN range? Second WB says my WU hammer should be in the white.....mine is blued. Any thoughts? The SN is 2671060 with a barrel date of 1-44. The stock and handguard are excellent......did I do OK? Regards, Rick.

Rear sight is on backwards. Therefore may have been changed out. Need better pictures of the rear sight and staking. I think all .U. Underwood bolts are marked under the left lug. Sometimes finish was an option on hammers and other small parts. A picture could tell if it has been refinished. You still did very well. Real nice Underwood stocks are hard to find.

I believe the only restoration done was the rear sight. After talking to PBI, you can see the stake marks and another obvious problem.....the flip sight is not correct. It looks like somebody found an unmarked sight and had a U marked on the flip with a punch letter plus there is no dot next to the U plus it's too large. So I need to find a replacement rear sight and most likely a base that matches. Otherwise, she looks all legit so all in all I'm satisfied especially since it's a fairly obscure code. That is a very nice looking Underwood for sure. It has the type II/III punch staking for the rear sight. The rear sight looks counterfeit to me. Looks like one of the nicer ones but counterfeit nonetheless.

The cabine looks like it has been refinished in the Bavarian blue seen on the recent CMP guns, It also appears that the hammer had the same finish applied. I think the Germans reblued the whole gun at once. Does the stock show any signs of type 3 barrel band marks? It looks like your barrel has a rub mark right where a T3 band once sat. Then again, it may just be the pics and my eyes. We all know that you can take 5 different pics of a gun and each one looks like it has a different finish.

The rub mark is just that and it's an inch above where the top of the type 3 barrel band would have been. The action and barrel are parked. I own a Underwood Bavarian 2772 that is very different than this rifle. And of course has Bavarian Forest Service and Tyrol Austrian markings. It is a recent CMP rifle and has not been reblued. This guy's collection was 50 years old and it wasn't easy to find parts on the internet like it is now. It shows no sign of either German ownership or Depot overhaul.....Still the sight is a mystery.
