The ones I saw were not drilled and tapped. They were survival rifles for the CF aircraft. This would be luxury. If it was drilled and tapped, in my opinion it would hurt very little for collector value. There are a few here that have at least several in their possession and they will eventually chip in.

why do people have SEVERAL EAL's in their possession. Listen to obama folks "spread the wealth around". Hmmmmm. it seems that when it comes to rifles I haven't got, apparently I'm a socialist too.

There is nothing wrong in being a Socialist as long as you have enough money and you don't annoy others.
My EAL might be unique as it was formerly in the author Charles Stratton's collection.

What horrible looking rifles is all I can say...... I wonder exactly what sort of trials such a beast had to undertake prior to its acceptance by the Canadian
Government. I wonder how it would have fared had it undergone exhaustive trials at our pretty independent but tough Trials and Development Unit. Any Canadian trials papers exist?

Not that I'm aware of. As far as I know all they wanted was a lightweight rifle that used the components and ammo that was available at little or no cost to the crown. It was issued primarily to the airforce...what can I say. They always seemed to pull their magic out of a different hat. At one time they were looking for a survival weapon for the downed fighter pilots. Something that would fasten to the ejector seat. They, in their infinite wisdom, puchased a number of S&W model 29 revolvers in .44 Magnum. Imagine a pilot hitting anything but the ground to his front with that. Full house loads too of course. That's just one example.

Thanks to all, one of the threads Doug posted shows the receiver drilled just like the one I am going to purchase tomorrow.
So the question, The EAL Rifle link that Doug posted which shows one drilled and tapped identical to the one I am buying... was it issued as such or is that something that was done later by ???????.

The one I am buying is a military version with a low serial number and in the first 100 made. It is in very good condition however someone at one time has installed a very nice Redfield micrometer rear sight. The sight for sure detracts from the originality but I am happy to get one and the price is very reasonable. Now to find a proper mount and scope.
Well bought it and the fun of transfering it to me was interesting as usual. It would be nice to have people working in the CFC that actually had a clue about firearms. Spouting knowledge that is written in your computer program really has little bearing on what in acutality is fact...well enough of the rant.
Just hope someone sends me a pm with a proper mount and scope they want to sell?
