Manufactured in 1931 at the Tula arsenal. Looks to be an arsenal refinish with the usual shellac. Should also have the serial number on the buttplate and the magazine base.

You have to be careful, they tend to multiply. I started out with a nice Tula, now it has three friends and an M44 to go along with it. I'm still looking for a laminate stock.
There is a reasonably priced book called The Mosin-Nagant Rifle by Terence Lapin that has a lot if information on these. It's a small paperback but packed with photos, markings, different types ets.

That is a fine looking Tula made arm! I have two myself (1935 & 1939)

I know what you mean, I started with an M39, then a M91/30 and now I own two M39's, two M91/30's, an M91, and a M27. You just can't have one Mosin! Love the Finnish
ones though.

I've already thought about buying another one that is a laminated stock, and mount a scope onto it for deer hunting. Hang me, I know, but I love the feel of these rifles so much, and they are so accurate. I do a lot of hunting, so I think it would be a cool project.

The safety is a bit of a problem for hunting, this is definitely not a quick fire type rifle. Probably be suitable as a stand rifle. Can't flip that safety off with a thumb.

That is true, but I hunt in large open fields full of long shots, usually out of a blind. Not in the brush. It should work

That type hunting sounds perfect for the Nagant and it's "interesting" safety.
