M1 Navy match? 7.62mm nato
I have a Navy match M1
Garand(maybe), Serial# 58037##( last 2 omitted) It has the last four of the reciever SA model serial#, on the the barrel, and inside floor plate. Stock is like new and is not original. All NM parts, Barrel production date is 65, H&R 7.62mm NATO, and last four. With that said What is rough value and is it correct? I found it in SC, a man in his 70s-80s was the owner and he shot it in matches years ago. Thats all I know. Thanks . SSG BG

I hope the barrel and housing numbers are painted, not stamped... a notorious faker used to stamp them.
Real men measure once and cut.

Bob, are you saying the 7.62 are just in paint? Or just the serial numbers?

Receiver serial notations. WARDOR used to do that. His fakes still surface periodically in a game of Pass The Trash.

Email Jim Adell of the GCA
Board of Directors @ adell@hotmail.com, giving him serial number and the data on the side of barrel. If you want paper verification he will send that to you. I am not sure if he will only do this for GCA members, but if you are not a member it would be worth the $25.00 membership fee for this service alone. Not to mention the four Journals you receive during the year and other benifits.

Jim verified a Navy Trophy Rifle ('43 Springfield receiver H&R 7.62 bbl) for me as such (it had been "upgraded" to a match gun). I paid $1400 in 08 for it. There is a discussion concerning these currently on Culver
's forum also. I shot a batch of our (Navy) Garands during the 60-70's and don't recall other than sights any of them having NM parts. That wasn't a big benefit as I recall, after all look who we had building them! LOL. That alone would make me suspicious. I also know our local SAMI (small arms marksmanship instructor) had 7.62 replacement barrels in the armory and these "walked" over time.

I paid alot less, and all the metal look to be very good. I swapped the stock and did not have to do any metal work. Barrel is around 2TE and 1ME. I hear the barrels are 1/12 twist, is that correct. I may try some 125 Noslers or Speer T-N-T. Going this weekend and shoot it some. I will try and post some pics. Thanks

If you barrel is marked SA 116865614 then its 1/12 twist, I just had mine rebarreled with one and its a hummer with the 125TnT, and Canadian
IVI 7.62 is scairy accurate, 168 handloads with Sierra or Nosler CC did very well also, I'm happay as a clam! T/E 1 M/E 0, my next batch of reloads I'm looking at is the 135 Sierra HPBT.
My complaints are ejection, its all over from 1 too 4 o'clock all clear the action about 20ft worth, #2 sometimes the case mouth takes a good wack, I think a coil and a half off the ejector spring may help solve these two issues.
Shooting impressions, I have a M1 in 30.06 and a M1A
in 7.62 but a M1 in 7.62 is a different animal, I would say that a M1 in 7.62 is a all day shooter it has less felt recoil than my M1A with the same loads, and NO I'm not telling the wife she can stick with her NM/AR.

Was the stock that came with it bedded? If not, I seriously doubt it is a "Navy" Match M1

so if it was a navy match and someone else swapped the stock then that would make it NOT a navy match? Bummer..... well I got 825.00 in it and will post some picks next week. Going to shoot some 155 match, and 125's and see how it goes.
