My 53 Lithy

I ran across this one a few years back. Really in good shape. A few, but not many, storage marks.
It'd one of the early rifles in the last run.

Limpetmine, thats a very nice rifle, one question and excuse my ignorance, continuous learning this Enfield affliction, but the top of the reciever where it has 45 under the broard arrow, am i right to assume that the reciever was made at that time and but was only fitted and finally produced in '53?

By the looks of things the bolt is missmatched or put together later from the amount of grinding work done on the back of the bolt handle, and it would apear to be a large consignment of lithgows that were sent to the US of A after the Government over here at the time had a severe allergy to firearms, hence that a lot of them got packed up and sent OS. The only way some of these rifles ended up back in Aus was by importing them which you could pick by the NYN stamp on them. all in all a nice example of a Lithgow, I had heard rumours that the dealer in the states bought containers full of these rifles and amongst them there were some quite rare test models XP and others but i never heard if it was confirmed. But still a nice lithgow

I think you'll find 'L <- 45' is a Lithgow inspection mark. with the '45' being the inspectors number not a date.

Dunno Pablo, the serial No. is misaligned and a slight overstamping, maybe the original was removed.

I can't see the serial number in any of those photo's but I believe pablo is right.

Looks normal to me.

Nice gun limpetmine. Is the butt a short or long length by any chance.

The date stamp I am talking about is on the receiver, the 5th photo. The date stamp is misaligned, overstamped and the area has been linished to remove the original, part of the original can just be seen under the 9.
