Canadian No.15 chest makers.......
Could I bother anyone who has a Canadian
No.15 chest to check the right hand end of the bottom board for markings. I was digging through some of my old notes and found some initials I had recorded MANY years ago. The notes were so old I think they were on papyrus.
The markings I am looking for are three letters and may or may not be separated by a period and again on the right hand end of the bottom board of the chest.
The ones I have recorded are:
H.C.F. which of course is Hill, Clark Francis, New Liskeard, Ont.
P.W.P. I have listed as Provincial Wood Products, Regina Sask.
A.W.P. which I also have as Alexandria Wood products, Location unknown but probably Alexandria Ont.
If anyone has any of the markings, other than H.C.F., which seems the most prolific, I'd appreciate hearing from you and if possible a photograph of the markings and any other stampings on the end or edge of the chest.

OK Warren, three Canadian
makers of No.15 might begin to explain three styles of CNo.7 chests I have observed. In the process of keeping Grant580 supplied with period hardware, I have sorted through 3-4 shipping pallets' worth of CNo.7 chests. The supplier stored the chests in the elements, and all (I say again) all the wood is rotten. Within the piles, three distinguishing features between the chests have been observed. Without disclosing too much detail without quantifiable research, here are my general observations.
Type 1 has angled dovetails.
Type 2 has small square tenons and butt joints top and bottom.
Type 3 has larger full height tenons.
I have only found one angled dovetail chest; the other two styles have either 1944 or 1946 dates, and seem to be equally distributed. It is entirely possible your three makers correspond to these three styles of CNo.7 chests.

If you could check the ends of the chests for makers codes it would be appreciated. It seems you are ignoring your other emails...

Well Warren, it's starting to look like someone needs to write a book on this subject?, I know I would buy it!
I am in the hospital right now and when I get out I will check my boxes down in the shed and see if there are any different manufacturers marks, but I doubt I have anything you guys don't. Hopefully Stencollector might jump in too and offer comment as I know he has a ton of transit chests?

@Grant580 - didn't you read the warning label at the nurses' station about WiFi interfering with hospital equipment? Belay that. You're not supposed to be websurfing this forum to read this.

Opps!, so far no ones said anything, maybe that's why all these IV warning bells are going off all around me? Besides how can one go a day without this site?

I can be of no significant help, as all of my Canadian
No. 4 Chests are HCF's, also attached is a photo of one of my CNo.7's. I will look at my other chests later, just got power back after 3 day's on the generator!!

Thank You to Lance For This Useful Post:

That was interesting to see the little sheet steel tabbed transit label holder attached to Lance's box. The lack of tack marks will be a giveaway to a box that you might suspect. Although it's not a cert, all those we ever dealt with had the stores transit/packing label attached
