5mil Series IHC Purchase - 56k :(
I enjoy collecting IHC rifles, and recently a 5.13mil IHC/IHC rifle came up on Gunbroker a few weeks ago and I decided to bid on it (it also helped that I'd been drinking at the time
). It looked to be mostly correct or at least have IHC parts that could be traded later. It was refinished at Red River in '64, and looks have an early, possibly incorrect, stock that has a nice grain to it. I also think the handguards are commecial replacements, as they don't fit very well. Those will get replaced later on.
I haven't gotten to shoot it yet, nor likely be able to in the next few months, but the bore is nice and shiny and should have a lot of life left in it. Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think as far as correctness goes.

A nice shot of the grain on the left side of the stock, as seen from the floor of the hotel I was staying in at the time.

You can see how ill-fitting the rear handguard is in this pic. Its most certainly a commercial replacement, as is the front handguard.

The receiver. You can also see the elevation know. I think the Weatherhead logo is incorrect for the 5mil series.

RRAD is Red River Army Depot, yes?

No bright chamber.
Oh well.

The bolt is correct and looks to have its original finish.

I'm pretty sure the trigger housing is correct, as is the pin (with the dimple), but I don't think the trigger guard is correct as it lacks dimples.

I think the trigger group is correct, other than the trigger guard.

I'm pretty sure the oprod is too early (it should be a 65IHC oprod). I wonder if it was put on at Red River or was later added by a previous owner in an attempt to correct it?

I'm pretty sure everything here is correct with the exception of the op rod catch. I think it should have a letter code on it somewhere, but it is unmarked. I think the 'C' marked clip latch is correct, but I could be wrong. Thoughts?

The aftermarket handguards. They don't fit very well and the rear handguard is developing a crack. They will be replaced eventually. My HK P7M13 also got to make an appearance, lol!

That is the remnants of an Ordnance stamp! I lucked out and got an early IHC stock, though its not correct for a 5mil series rifle.

Made on the 227th day of 1952.

I don't know if the small 'P' was added at the factory, or stamped on later in life, but I have a similarly early IHC stock that also has a 'P' stamp in this area. Any thoughts?

One last look at the pretty grain against my horrible motel bedspread.
Thanks for looking.

Very nice. Looks like somebody spent some bucks in restoring. Saves you quite a bit of time and money. As you said, any parts that are not quite correct can be traded. Good luck and enjoy.
