odd savage no4mk1*
alright i have a no4mk1* it says no4mk1* on one side and then on the other side it has england this is really confusing me. it is sporterized but i plan on un sportering it. Only the stock is so it won't take to long. I know it is a savage because it has there style of bolt removal. Serial number is 13c4087 made in 1942. if anyone knows why it doens't say savage please tell me. it has a #1 bolt head and round cocking piece. someone please explain why its like this

The squared of S above 1942 denotes savage, as does the serial number with the C in it.

I'm not sure I understand why you are confused. The No.4 Mk I* marking indicates the rifles classification. The "England
" stamp is reputed to be a private export stamp done in England prior to civilian sale here in the USA
.
Savage also made the No.4 Mark I rifle. The bolt head cut out from the receiver rail could be either for a Longbranch or a Savage rifle. The large square "S" on the left side butt socket denotes Savage manufacture and you will probably find most other parts marked with the same square "S" but somewhat smaller. the round cocking piece is an early type prior to the introduction of the more common slab sided cocking piece.

As has been previously said the (square) S and the C in the serial number indicate its a Savage.
The C in the part number actually denotes "Chicopee Falls Mass." - The Savage factory location.
As does the "L" in the serial number of those manufactured in Canada
at Longbranch (in Toronto)

Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Unfortunately, the bolt is the wrong one for your rifle from what I can see of the serial number
