Addional Sling swivel on stock.

I received my latest Garand from the CMP and on the left of the stock is a sling swivel the same distance as the butt swivel but on the side. My question could any unit from (Greek calvary, etc) or from wherever used the garands in their Horse Units? I sure would like to get some theories.

I will try to understand how to post pictures, but I'm not too smart with computers.

In May, 2010, while researching data on late SAs, John Bondurant and I found 5 or 6 modified M1s similar to your description. All were late SA rifles with a sling swivel added to the left side of the stock, and ANOTHER swivel welded to the left side of the lower band. Given that the Greeks modified more than one of these, they must have had a specific use in mind. Both of us assumed cavalry or motorcycle troops, but those are just our assumptions. Your guess is as good as ours.....
