I always wondered why the Fin's copied Russian
Weapons instead of simply inventing their own. What they did with the Mosin is amazing. Imagine if they started from the beginning. She sure is pretty.

Economics. Finland was cash strapped after gaining independence and was already using the Mosin Nagant when the country was part of the Russian Empire. Also Finnish
leaders rightly guessed that any future war would be with the Soviet Union and so by using the Mosin Nagant, they could use captured Russian ammo to supplement their own limited supply.
Finland did improve upon the Mosin Nagant design with tighter tolerances and increased accuracy over their Russian cousins.
