Need an update on U.S import laws !
Can I send the wood only, maybe a stock and handguard of an M1
Carbine to friends of mine in the States from N.Z without complications, or is it only the metal parts they are concerned about. I am still trying to understand this strange law that prevents some WW2 parts being sent back to where they belong. Any avenues of enquiry appreciated. I understand the lend-lease thing but what about the stuff that lend-lease does no apply to. Thanks. Mike.

The law does not prohibit the importation of gun parts, but executive order (a letter from the the President) does prohibit the importation of US-made firearms previously exported from the US, and also applies to PARTS from said firearms. So. yes, both of you could get into trouble. There ARE exceptions made. I would suggest that you ask your friend to get WRITTEN permission to import these parts from the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives), which regulates firearms imports.

What I will add is; Two years ago I received the a complete set of wood for my .303 Enfield along with the metal hardware I was missing from Australia. No knock on the door, and the declaration clearly stated what was in the box?
