The open ears in front of the peep sight, look like a night sight. Vaguely familair to a Galil's.

Weird looking sight. I've never seen anything like it. I see that someone in the auction commented:

It appears the flip up portion is a night sight. There are two areas on the side of the V to put the glowing elements or paint that was used to glow in the dark. I don't know the history of this sight but I'm sure it was used in conjunction with a front sight that also had a glowing element that would flip up.

As high as that thing sits on a No4, the "300 Yard" aperture is more like 1200 yards.
The sight is off a modern SLR---I saw one last week at the local shop, but do not remember which flavor. I'll look again, later on and get back to you.

It is in no way a sight for a No4 rifle.

Went by the shop today----that is the rear sight assembly off a Galil.

Hey, I actually know something (read my first post)!

Interesting that somene put the thought into making this functional.

on a similiar vein, would be interesting to play "what if" with old milsurps if they went another 20-50 years in service. i.e. what improvements would they make to an enfield if semis didn't come along.

I have, on numerous occasions, considered one particular "update" to my Ranger issued No4. I feel that a good quality scout mount, similar to the Springfield Armory M1A icon

scout mount, and an Aimpoint would make a world of difference. Especially to us Rangers who's eyes aren't 20 years old anymore.
