Longbranch Sniper listed for sale
One for the Canadians.
A No4 Mk1 Sniper rifle, serial 74L4092, has been listed for sale by a Melbourne, Australia
based Gun Dealer.
It is fitted with a Lyman Alaskan scope and a Griffin Howe mount.
The listing is on this website.

Listings are sorted by calibe! Its the last listing under 303.
Does this rifle look to be a genuine conversion?
At AUD$6000 it is not cheap.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul, It would take some more close up pictures of the scope, base and top of the wrist on the buttstock to tell if it's genuine. The scopes are distinctly marked and numbered to the top of the wrist as on a standard No.4T. Brian

If that is the actual serial number I would be very cautious.
I can borrow a 74L rifle which is not a sniper on Sunday - the owner is on night shift so I wouldn't want to bug him now.
I sold a 2nd 74L rifle to another friend a few years ago...
I've owned an 80L and a 90L rifle which were not snipers.
The "sniper blocks" are within a specific 500-999 number "block". There are non-sniper rifles which exist just outside of those blocks.

Interesting. I just posted a thread relating to that telescope. If the scope and mount are all original, it would be 1 of only 100 Lyman telescopes that were bought for the Canadian
Army. Pretty uncommon. I'm actually surprised that it doesn't command a higher price than that. (which might be the result of it possibly not being original)
My mistake. Its 350, not 100 scopes that were issued.

The most recent research shows 350 No32T.P. rifles as being manufactured and issued.
More than REL MkI and MkIA scopes manufactured, and the same number as the C.No32MkIII.
Really not that rare when put into perspective.

Ah. I suppose I need to get a more up to date edition of Skennerton
's book. Its a shame too, I bought it not long before a newer edition was released.

I don't have my Skennerton
handy, but shouldn't it have a cheekpiece, or was only the later ones?

It's a Monte Carlo type cheek piece.

You're right no cheek piece. I got confused, I was thinking of another thread about a phot of Canadian
snipers.
The seller of the wire cutter should word his advert a little less ambiguous. I think they were referencing condition. It would be a lot for a repro.
