First go with a Sage stocked M1A

As much as I disliked the stock when first introduced to it several years ago, An opportunity recently arose to try it on the range.

It's still heavy (not horribly so), the length of pull adjustments are coarse, the butt is wiggly, and field stripping is not lightly undertaken!

But the thing DOES interface well with the user, and the rifle with a standard 'el cheapo 18 1/2" Springfield Inc. barrel shoots.

After basic zeroing here's the first ten rounds at 100yds at a 3/4" paster:


168gr Federal Match ammo.

That's using towels draped over wood blocks as a front rest and wearing a t-shirt. (Left handers get considerable heart beat disturbance if not careful when not padded a bit on the shoulder.)

So the scope came off and an Aimpoint T1 "reddot' was installed for final zeroing.

Here's the sighters and some additional rounds at 100 yds. All done standing. (What's the point of having a reddot otherwise? They aren't hardly benchrest devices.)

Went to an iron sighted rifle next, but it's even more modern, so no report except it was quite pleasing after some familiarization with the single stage trigger..

That and a revolver at 100, but it was not all that acceptable. More work needed there. Been too long.

Hopefully, the reloading area will be done relocating soon so a pile of 6,5 and 7,35 Carcano ammo can be built! And .303. And 8mm. And...
