M1917 VS. P14 rear sight, how to tell them apart?
I just took on a light M1917 restoration project and I will need a rear sight. The problem I seem to be having is not finding them but telling the 2 apart. Is there a surefire way to make sure I acquire one specifically for the 30.06 M1917 and not for the .303 P14?
thanks in advance

Off the top of my head. I think the P14 sight is much longer then the M1917.

I will be ordering it from the net so I can't really judge the length.

I think the P-14 sight is graduated to 1650 yards and the M1917 to 1600.

Simplest way is US M1917 sights don't have serial numbers, Pattern 1914s do.

This will be a mail order? You will get whatever they ship. Order from a good dealer. Springfield Sporter is a good dealer for this one. Good luck.

Thanks chuck but I found one. after 3 hours of research and google image searching Wayne T is correct. M1917 =1,600 and P14= 1,650 max graduations. I also found that their are a lot of people with the wrong sights on their 17s and 14s. most likely from ordering from net retailer who just toss it in the package straight out of the bin.
