Ross varations

Ross T Bolt military Rifles, I have 3 of the 4 but NEVER even seen the one with the Roller Coaster rear sight, anyone have one of these for sale ? Or Even SEEN one ?? I have a .22 trainer also, the single one I've seen .

The Ross uses a straight pull system. It is probably the 1905 Ross Military Mark II rifle you are referring to when you state "roller Coaster rear sight." These show up frequently on Internet Gun Forums here in Canada. The knurled ring at the front of the sight will rotate and give five yard interval settings after you set the yardage on the elevation slide. This is the second variation of sights and is known as the Mark II rear sight, the Mark I rear sight being a ladder sight similar to the earlier Lee Metford / Lee Enfield.

The straight pull Ross .22 trainers still show up on the Internet Gun Forums for sale. Not really common, but not really rare either.

I have one of the early Mark II rifles with the "roller-coaster" sights. It is a 1906-marked rifle which has been Bubba'd.

Buffdog describes the operation of the sights perfectly.

I will add that the divisions on the rotating ring are far enough apart that if the sight were issue-tight, it would be possible to adjust the sights to increments as little as ONE YARD. It is without doubt the most precise military rifle sight ever manufactured.

For Ross, that seems to have been perfectly normal.

Joe Salter had one for sale for a while, not sure if still does. Had a Mk II with Mk III rearsight as well.
