where do I go from here
I decided I wanted to collect a gun from every period of US history. For VN I have a stevens 77E, cold war an late H&R correct grade, Korea a rebuild rock ola. WW11 an A4, a LL gararand. a LL remington 03, a early inland, a victory 38 and a 1911a1. for between the wars I have a original 1920 03 and a early RI with an avis barrel and a POD stamp. WW1 a win1917. a original 1907 03, a winchester 97 trench, a 1917 Smith and a 1911, the war with Spain a krag an a colt artillary. indian wars a 45/70 carbine, civil war a colt special musket.and a colt 1863 cap @ ball, mexican war a 1842 harpers ferry musket. I can keep going back wards when money allows. But how do I go forward without getting a class 3 and spending a fortune for auto weapons?

Just stick with SA versions and get a G3 clone, FAL ,AK47, AR15. You get the look with out spending the $$$$$$.
But like mentioned you won't have that Happy Switch!!!!

You still need to get an M1795 musket for War of 1812 and M1816 and/or M1835 muskets for the Mexican War. Of course they expensive, but so are the M14
and M16.
