New MAS-49 owner with a question

Just recently aquired a Frenchicon MAS-49 and was wondering if I got an oddball, from what I heard only the MAS-44s had the black enamel finish on them, talk to some people on Gunboards and they never heard of or seen any MAS-49s with the black enamel finish, so I was wondering if any of you can shed some light on the subject, and the rifle is French, and not the Syrian contract Rifle thanks

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. My only experience with the MAS rifles is the one MAS 49/56 I own. That said, my rifle has the flash suppressor/grenade launcher that is obviously not present on your rifle, and a parkerized finish. That again is the extent of my knowledge and exprience.

Welcome to the fever! I've had a MAS49 and a MAS44 over the years. The book you need to buy by Jean Huot by Collector Grade Publications, entitled Proud Promise. The answer will be in there, along with a whole lot of other answers.
