Austrian M 95 bayonet fit issue
I have what appears to be an ordinary Austrian bayonet for the M95 rifle, looks virtually identical to a couple others I have, but will not fit any of my rifles- starts on ok but stops before the muzzle ring gets on to the muzzle. Ithas the Steyr StF marking and S.N., but nothing else. I ,ve heard there was a transitional model with the same issue but have not found out anything more about it.
So- do I have a (hopefully) rare piece here or just a damaged one?
Thanks

If it is marked Steyr, it may be an export model produced between the wars for another country.

It is not at all unusual to have to fit a M95 to the rifle, short rifle or carbine you want to use it on. Why that is so I have no idea but a small amount of work is often necessary and, if done carefully and in the same manner that a unit armorer would have done it, will have no affect on the historical value or collectability of the bayonet.
The above fact being stated, assure yourself that it is indeed a M95 bayonet and then do the work or sell the bayonet to a collector. Why the A-H M95 bayonet is like this I have no idea but I have had to fit bayonets to several guns over the years, easily done.

A little needle filing in the slot did the trick! But only after I checked the article recommended by old smithy, just to be sure. So many thanks to you both.

I have the same issue with one I just bought for a carbine M95. The odd thing about this bayo is that it has no markings what so ever and on the scabbard where the frog would hook on the tab is a connected AB. Any ideas on the identity of this one? Going out to try the filing now.
