Wink HMAS WARRAMUNGA Wooden GUN Chest

Hi, new to this fantastic Forum.Have been collecting military items for a few years but have only recently found these two rifle chests.Any insight as to what the HMAS Warramunga Chest held.I thought it might be for a jungle carbine, but a friend tried that and it did not quite fit.Maybe an Owen machine Gun? Any ideas would be appreachiated . Are they common chests. Thanks. Length of chest is 1220 mm lid.Internal 1150mm.
