Broken scope issues
My buddy's sniper 91/30 has always been more accurate than mine, at least with lead ammo. That's the good news, but today he got some bad news- on the fifth shot, the PU scope apparently came apart internally. Light comes through, but that's about all. It rattles when shaken!
So the question is, can it be fixed? If so, does anybody know of a place?

Unless it's a quite rare "original" unrebuilt rifle, then it's probably easiest just to get another scope. But there's a few folk scattered about who might rebuild it. The thing is that they might still have to buy another scope for parts!

I think I know why it broke- we were using a Lead Sled to sight them in, and I suspect the lack of shock absorbing inherent in this gadget transferred all of the shock to the scope! When fired off-hand, the shooter's body is the shock absorber.Sorta like a car with no springs, every little road shock is transferred directly to the passengers. Anyway, a word to the wise, maybe?

Exactly what I was looking for. I doubt he'll get it fixed when new ones are available for less than 150 bucks, but I'll give him the data and he can go from there.thanks.

You're right about the lead sledge though. When we test No32's and L1A1's after repair, we always set the recoil to hard on the slave rifle test rig (the tele is mounted onto a slave rifle) and then 5 or so rounds are fired in order to shake the sxxx out of the scope. It's called 'testing for fastness'!
