M1 Garand Barrel Issue
I have a Garand
with a bore which has some mild pitting. After firing the bore looks much+++ dirtier than any other rifle I have ever used, including old Mosin Nagants with real rough bores. The fouling looks like whiskers. What's up with that?

Does it shoot? If so then don't worry. If it won't shoot, change the barrel. And then don't worry.

Give it a good cleaning, then shoot it a bit and clean it again. Are you shooting lead?

LC Ball goes about 4"-5" at 100yds, I shoot better than that with my Berreta Garand
. I bought a NOS Springfield barrel , found a guy to change barrel, so I think I'll just swap it out.

The 4" group is sometimes about the best a grunt rifle will do, and I think it may even be qualification standard...a new barrel will definitely make it look better inside.

Thanks! I'm gonna go shoot it some more now. I've got 400rds of cr** Korean ball on en blocsI got ripped off on( internet purchase, told it was non corrosive LC ball
), thinking of blasting through all of it some day, cleaning the rifle really well and maybe then get the new barrel on it. Not planning to sell rifle so looks is of minor importance, thanks for your advice!
