Difference in standard and cadet trapdoor Springfields.
Just bought my first Model 1873 Springfield trapdoor rifle. According to a little research, it appears it was manufactured in 1876.
My question was, how would one determine the difference in a cadet model as opposed to a regular infantry rifle? As I said, this is my first TD, and can already tell there's a ton to learn about these great old war horses!

Shorter barrel length (29 5/8), stock thickness is narrower at the butt plate and there is no sling swivel on the trigger guard ( at that 1876 ) time frame. Usual load fired for cadets at the time was also reduced, IIRC something like .45-55

The cadet rifles without sling swivels on the trigger guard had only a stacking swivel on the upper barrel band, no sling swivel. Many cadet rifle trigger guards were used to make Bubba carbines, and standard guards and upper bands installed in their place.
