It is import marked, nicely done on the bottom of the barrel where the cleaning rod obscures it. Very faint serial number added to the receiver in the bolt channel. Knox importer.
A lot of people claim the Finn's despised the 38 Carcano but I noticed this afternoon that they used the Italian
style side stock sling attachment on the M39's.

The Civil Guard 'S' will be a left over on the reused receiver, which may have been either an M91, M24, M28, or M28/30. Your rifle itself wouldn't have been issued to the Civil Guard.

The French
and the Swiss
used this method - if I had to say it was copied from anyone, it would be the Swiss. M39s were already on issue by the time the Carcanos began to be used in Finnish
service.
The side swivels were intended to be used by Jaegers (Ski Troops).

That's what I figured with the "S". I wonder why they scrubbed everything else off the receiver and left that and the old serial number on it. Perhaps the scrubbing was done during it's first rebuild.
I guess a rifle designed a couple of years prior to getting the carcanos wouldn't be a copy, my bad. I was tired yesterday, long evening of partying the night before which is quite a rare event for me. Wedding reception.
I had to take it apart a second time. Never thought to clean the cosmoline
out of the trigger assembly. It was a little "sticky" Works fine now.

I really hated pulling the trigger on this one but a bayonet is on the way. Price a bit less than most have been going for but not by much. It's an M27 bayonet, Fiskars marked, grooved scabbard.
