DoD Cartouche
I'm usually pretty good about being able to authenticate markings from pictures, but this one appears to have been double stamped a bit and has been tough to verify. I'd appreciate a second opinion. It's on a 1955 5.8 million SA.
Thanks a whole lot!

I'd have a hard time believing anyone would falsify one of those...they aren't the expensive ones...on M1s.

Well, the "snoopy cartouche" really threw me for a loop and I'd sleep better if I could get an "A-OK" from someone in the know.
So, are you saying it looks good to you?

I acquired a M1
NM from DCM sales at Camp Perry and the DoD cartouche is similarly jumped or double struck. A friend of mine attending the same National Matches, who could care less about the marking, got one with a single clean strike. I had to to say "Why me?" but at least I can say that the cartouche you provide image of is nearly identical to my rifle that came through the system from Springfield Armory.

Snoopy was used on M1
stocks. The faker said the stocks came from an Air Force Base, like maybe the AF used a different stamp? LOL, total crapola. It was among the very first generation of fakes and even though crude, it fooled a lot of rookies. It was exposed in the GCA
Journal and precipitated a big fight between our side and friends of the faker. GCA expelled the culprit.
Real men measure once and cut.

Thanks for clarifying that one about DAS on M1
's. It still surprises me that anyone would falsify that marking. I have seen the snoopy...gross...it might work if you'd NEVER seen a DAS...

Jim, you need to remove the thought that any cartouche is not good enough to fake. Also remember DAS stocks are now bringing in well over $300.00 a piece. Rick B

This is a Late SA 5.6 million of later and was used on the later NM's.
So i'm assuming from this statement that the cartouche is good?
I appreciate you guys taking the time to look.
