Hi:
A great book on the World War II war dogs is: Always Faithful: A Memoir of The Marine Dogs of WWII by William Putney. Anyone that loves dogs and has an interest in the history of World War II should read this book. These war dogs saved a lot of lives on the Pacific islands.

A friend of mine currently runs dogs in the bad places. He did two years in Afghanistan and two years in Iraq...mostly night shift he said. Then it was just him and his dog and the bad guys. No mistaken identity that way.
