Mitchell's Mausers 91-30 sniper
What am I missing here? I am aware of the general disdain that the members of this site hold for these particular rifles, but I've read the ad again and again and I just don't see the problem, other than maybe the price. The scope appears to be authentic, s.n.s all match, correct date, etc. they are no doubt reworked, even though no mention is made of this fact, but aren't all of them?
They appear to be more authentic than the one I've got, which has a post-war scope but otherwise all o.k., and only cost half of what Mitchell's wants, so I'm happy, but could always use one more!
So- any specific info to pass on?

They have a very bad reputation as far as collectors go. If you just want a good example to fire then it would be a good option. If you are also a collector these rifle are made up to be things they are not.

They aren't collectible, they are way over priced. You'll never get your return out of them.
That being said, they are nice rifles and I happen to own a
Yugo
M48 from Mitchell's. Now I didn't pay the $500 they want for them, I got it for less than $300 if I remember correctly from Cabelas. The guy that sold it to Cabelas obviously didn't get anywhere near $300 for it so he probably lost $250 in the transaction.
The thing with the M48's are they almost all look like brand new rifles so Mitchell's didn't do anything to them. It's most likely original so it retains it's collector value, it just isn't anywhere near what Mitchell's claims it to be. It is not a
K98
as they advertise, even in the paperwork that came with it. It's an M48 postwar rifle.
That's the answer I was looking for- they might match but not neccessarily original. Thanks.
