Help with LEC1 buttstock marking
I have just acquired a nice LEC Mk 1 dated 1896. The marking disc to 4H is 4th Hussars, I believe. Can anyone identify the oval cartouche just in front of the buttplate, above the number 405?
Thanks
Rob

NICE score
PM me the serial number along with the bolt number (they probably do not match) and I can authenticate it for you

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you are three digits away from the closest listed serial number. One clue with RNWMP carbines is that only a few had matching bolts so most will be mismatched.
Close but no cigar as the man says.
Nice Canadian
M&D markings.

Thanks Warren, if it hadn't been for Rob's thread, I wouldn't have had any idea about the possibility

Sabona uBaba! Great to see to your LEC 1 is from the same stable as mine (excuse the pun). Was in PMB last week and had the best steak I've had in either hemisphere at Traffords, just next to the NC parade ground. Sala kahle. Rob

Hmm, the number 1499 does not appear in the list I have. I have penciled in a number of "orphans" and this one might be another. The stock is clearly marked RNWMP, so until there is evidence that someone has absconded with a RNWMP stamp, I am reasonably sure that yours is kosher. There is a faked LEC running around Canada
at the present but it is what it is...an obvious fake.
