Smith & Wesson "Victory Model"

Hello. This is a revolver I have wanted for a long time and I finally got one today. I have always liked the No2Mk1 revolver and the Webley Mark IV and I have a few, but this is my first S&W Victory Model. It shows a lot of wear and the numbers are not matching but it does have one serial with the "V" and it seems to be perfect mechanically. I have it pictured with my "Hand Eject" model that was shipped in 1919.

Looks good. I've had a few and they were everything for mint to just about worn out. Yours look great.

I'm guessing it's still in .38 S&W ( .38/200 ) ? Does it have the barrel counterbored by the Brits ?

Yes, .38 S&W. The barrel is not counterbored, but it is a replacement barrel. You can see the oversized pin holding it in and it also has proof marks on the barrel but not the frame.

You noted that your S&W had been rebarreled, so the serial number shown would be from the revolver the barrel was originally on. What is the serial number on the butt of your revolver?

I thought with the Victory models the barrel and cylinder were numbered together and the frame and side plate were numbered together...? The barrel on 494026 isn't tight to the frame either. The oversize pin also says to me it wasn't a factory job. No professional job looks like that. The cylinder gap needs to be re-cut and adjusted when this is done...I think this was done in a basement...but it'll probably shoot just great.
